Former Alabama Defensive Lineman Terrence Cody Changed The Landscape Of Modern Day Collegiate Football

One of the largest guys in college football this past year, Terrence Cody, at 6 foot 4 in tall & 350 lbs, has transformed the way that colleges look at larger players. A very good run stopper makes a world of difference for college football clubs wishing to free up their linebackers.

Tips About Being A Resident Of Alabama

In your lifetime, you encounter a number of rules that are golden, rules that actually apply. In Alabama, there is another set of guidelines that you won’t find anywhere else. As an Alabama resident, these rules will help you as long as you stay here.

Wisconsin Badgers Football – Barry Alvarez And The Badger Revival

Since playing their first football game in 1889, the University of Wisconsin Badgers football program has seen its share of ups and downs. With an overall record of 614 wins and 465 losses, the ups have outweighed the downs, to be sure, but when the program has been down it has been for an extended period of time. For example, after their 1901 season, Badger teams suffered through what could only be described as a 35 year period of utter mediocrity – with the one exception being the team’s 1912 undefeated season. Another thirty year period of poor performances and mediocre results occurred after the Badgers’ 1962 loss in the Rose Bowl. It would not be until Barry Alvarez arrived as the team’s head coach in 1990 that the program’s fortunes would begin to turn around.

Boise State Broncos – Life On A Field Of Blue

For the casual football fan whose experience with the college game may extend no farther than catching an occasional game with his buddies at the bar, Boise State’s Broncos football team can cause quite a bit of consternation. As members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), they first captured the attention of much of the nation in the 2006-07 campaign. That season saw the Broncos go undefeated with 13 wins, and then beat the mighty Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl game. For the last several seasons, the Broncos have remained one of the best – and perhaps underrated – teams in the country. Even though they managed another undefeated 14 victory season in 2009, they were never seriously considered for title contention. Oddly enough, though, for most casual fans the Boise State football’s team has not been the real attention-getter – it has been the fact that they play on a blue field!

Washington Shocks #3 USC With Late Field Goal

USC has won their big game against Ohio State twice in back to back years. Its the next game they have problems with. This year, it was the Washington Huskies who pulled the upset. The Huskies defense shut down the powerful Trojans offense, and Erik Folk kicked a 22 yard field goal with 3 seconds remaining to give Washington a 16-13 victory in Seattle. USC has now lost to an unranked team in each of the past four seasons.

Southern Cal Trojans – Pete Carroll’s USC Years

Trojan football has been a part of the NCAA since 1888, with the University of Southern California team having consistently been one of the teams to beat. With 11 national titles to the program’s credit, the Trojans have spent much of their history dominating the Pacific 10 Conference in which they compete, while also routinely threatening the national championship picture. Over the last decade, USC has spent much of their time ranked within the very top tier of the vote tabulations that have counted: the Associated Press (AP) and Bowl Championship Series (BCS) polls. Over the course of that decade, the Trojans were led by Coach Pete Carroll, who made a name for both himself and his team with a fast-paced style of offense and hard-nosed defense.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Football And Mike Leach

Deep in the heart of the Big Twelve Conference the Texas Tech Raiders – otherwise known as “Tech” have been playing hard-nosed football since the year 1925. Given the importance of football in Texas, this should come as no surprise to any football fan anywhere. The program has not been a powerhouse on the national stage, but it has had a great degree of success within its conference affiliation, winning 11 conference titles and remaining competitive over the course of its existence. Over its long history, there is one period that definitely stands out when it comes to success, and that period was from 2001 until 2009 – a series of consecutive seasons that saw the Red Raiders of Texas Tech garner a winning season in every year. The oddest part of that is that their coach during that period was one of the rare coaches who had no experience playing the game.

Utah Utes – The BCS Sees Urban Renewal

A lot of things have changed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Bowl Championship Series over the last few years. With teams like Boise State and Texas Christian finally beginning to get their due as legitimate national title contenders, the major conferences with automatic BCS berths seem poised to lose their stranglehold on the championship title. To look at the true origins of the breakdown of that stranglehold, one need only go back to Urban Meyer’s time as the coach of the Utah Utes. The Utes play in the Mountain West Conference, one of the smaller NCAA groupings that were not afforded the automatic berth provided to major conference teams when the BCS was first established. As a result, no team from a conference such as the MWC was invited to a BCS game – that is, until Urban Meyer arrived at the University of Utah.

Georgia Bulldogs Running Back Herschel Walker

One of the most successful college football programs in the history of the game has been the Bulldogs from the University of Georgia. With a winning percentage that equates to victories in almost two out of every three games they have ever played, the Bulldogs have traditionally occupied a position in the ratified atmosphere of college football’s premier teams. Located in the SEC (Southeastern Conference), the Georgia teams have seen some less than stellar seasons in the last several years, though they remain competitive and are often among the twenty-five top programs in any given year. Many great players have played in their 90,000 seat capacity stadium in Athens – a stadium so large that only four North American stadiums surpass it in size -over the years, with one of the more recognizable of those players being the great Herschel Walker, running back for the Georgia teams of 1980, ‘81, and ‘82.

Miami Hurricanes – Championship Caliber

Fans of college football know all too well the quality of the teams that the University of Miami football program has fielded in the last several decades. Though the program had not won a national championship for most of its eighty-four year history, the early 1980s saw a change in fortunes that has lasted into recent years. The five championships won by Miami teams since 1983 (the Associated Press awarded them the title in 1984, with another four titles awarded through 2002) are bested only by the programs at three other schools. With two winners of the Heisman Trophy in their history, the Hurricanes have had an impact both as a team and in personal bests. Their 58 consecutive home wins was an NCAA record that no team has managed to surpass.
