Sheffield FC – The Oldest Club Around
Sheffield F.C (Sheffield Football Club) is an English based team that resides in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Whilst they are not the oldest noted club, they are the oldest club that is still playing Association Football. They were originally founded in 1857, and are still going strong. They are several Football Forums dedicated to the team and these will continue to be open as long as the club is running.
In all honesty, the team does struggle in comparison to top teams in the UK, and are not in the top league, currently competing in the Northern Premier League Division. They have used a range of places as their home ground over the years, take Bramall Lane for instance. Of course, they have settled at a new ground since then, being the Coach and Horses Ground in Dronfield, Derbyshire.
It has been a long time since there has been a Sheffield Derby. The first recorded event took place back in 1860, when Sheffield took on Hallam for the first time. Events like these are still talking about on a range of Football Forums on a worldwide basis, mainly because they are known for being the oldest club still in play today
Of course, the club has not seen as much success as other English clubs such as Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, but they have had some over the years. In 1904, they managed to win the FA Amateur Cup. Apart from that, they were also 2nd place in the FA Vase in 1977 and received the FIFA Order of Merit in the past for their efforts. Although they had some success, it has not been recently, which is why they are not the most popular topic on Football Forums.
It was 1857 when the club was actually formed, but it was events dating back to 1855, which sparked an interest in creating a club in Sheffield itself. The cricket club used to organize regular informal games, which would see all types of players playing with no rules applied - but there was a demand for something more serious.
Nathaniel Creswick and William Prest were the ones behind the Sheffield team and soon started to brain storm ideas. Before long they had a plan in place and a meeting in 1857 was all that was needed to confirm the development of the Sheffield Football Team. They have been going strong ever since, and their fan base is easily recognized by visiting popular Football Forums.
