Liverpool’s New Boss?

Rafa could have been paid a staggering 16 million pounds under the terms of his contract but reports indicate that he has accepted a sum around 6 million. Poor guy. Don't feel too bad for him though, because of the departure of one Jose Mourinho from Inter Milan it looks like he might already have a job in a few days time. Rafa did say before he left however. After 6 seasons 1 UEFA Champions League(2004-05), 1 FA Cup(2005-06), 1 UEFA Super Cup (2005), and 1 FA Community Shield (2006) the Rafa-lution is finally over.

"I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

Opinion on if this has been a good thing or not for Liverpool is divided. I suppose that one unforgettable night in Istanbul is worth coming in 7th in the league this year. The 500 Liverpool fans that stormed Anfeild chanting his name certainly think so. The question now is who will fill his shoes? The rumour mill has been churning away and word on the street was that Guss Hiddink was the man. Guss however has dismissed the reports. He has just taken the coaching job for Turkey and according to the Dutchman's agent Cees van Nieuwenhuizen;

"Guus has shown over the years that he is loyal to agreements that he signed," Van Nieuwenhuizen said. "There is no reason today why he would change such behaviour. "Guus just started two weeks ago in Turkey and as much as he likes the Premier League and as much as he respects Liverpool as a legendary club with a great future ahead, a switch would be hardly doable. I know, never say never and especially in football this is true, but for me this is an impossible thought."

Rijkaard's agent Perry Overmeers also dismissed any potential move to Anfield as he is commited to Turkish side Galatasaray. "Rumours linking Frank to Liverpool are just that, rumours," Overmeers said."Frank is the type of person who likes to fulfil his obligations and he has one year left on his contract with Galatasaray." So in some strange way Turkey is stopping Liverpool their ideal choice of managers. It's like they're saying "ok we gave you Istanbul and thats it!"

The likely candidates however seem to be Roy Hodgson (Fulham) and Louis van Gaal(Bayern Munich). Reports suggest that Kenny Dalglish and managing director Christian Purslow has shortlisted these two managers and will try to temp them to take the job. Unfortunately even if they do get a good manager Liverpool might have to wait 2 to 3 seasons before "HIS" Liverpool will bear fruit.
