Baylor – A Great Sports Team

The successful baseball team of the Baylor University is known as the Baylor Bears. Currently they are playing in the NCCA Division I college baseball, same as other teams and are controlled by the Big 12 Conference.

The head coach, Steve Smith has been the coach for a period of fifteen years now giving you an idea of how well he has been doing. All the home games for the Baylor Bears are played at the Baylor Ballpark. This park is expected to be able to hold a capacity of about 5000 fans and spectators.

Green and Gold are the colors of the team's uniform. There are many other famous teams that are under the control of the Big 12 Conference and they are Kansas Jay hawks, Kansas State Wildcats, Missouri Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Ted Lyons was one of the most famous players from Baylor University that went on to play major league. Born on 28th December 1900, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Having played for his university, Ted made his debut playing for the Chicago white Sox on 2nd July 1923.

Ted was renowned for his hand changes when batting. He always kept the pitcher guessing as to whether Ted would use his left or right hand to bat. This made him very successful during his career which was entirely with the Chicago White Sox from 1923 to 1946.

While maintaining a win loss ratio of 260:230, Ted had an earned run average of 3.67 and also a superb 1073 strike outs, which are seen as impressive statistics. He changed his earlier starting position as pitcher and then went on to manage the Chicago White Sox from the year 1946 to year 1948.

His last appearance as a player for the team was on May 19th, 1946. Some of his career highlights included the selection of him in the All Star team in 1939 and the number 16 for Chicago White Sox. He was inducted into the Baseball hall of fame as entry number 1955. He received a vote of 86.5% from an eight ballot vote which led him to receive the prestigious honor.

When Ted was on his peak of his performance, there was a lot of speculation in regards to other teams wanting him to play for their state. Even though many were known to appreciate his form, they still believed that he would have done better if they played for their state.

Considered a baseball legend, Ted Lyons is an iconic player for those who love and enjoy the game. He was 85 years old when he passed away in Sulphur, Louisiana on 25th of July in 1986
